Thomas Partey pleased with Antoine Griezmann’s transfer decision

Ghana international Thomas Partey has admitted that he is pleased after Antoine Griezmann took the decision to stay put with Atletico Madrid. The France international was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona during the summer transfer window but ultimately, he has decided to stay put with the Capital outfit.

In response to this, Partey was pleased with the decision taken from his teammate and he is hoping to win more silverware alongside the Frenchman next season, he said: “Well he’s the best in our team and we are very happy that he’s staying and we looking forward to having another great season and go forward to try and push to the champions league final and try to win something in the upcoming season.”

Griezmann’s future at Atletico Madrid have been regularly discussed over the past two months but the Frenchman has now confirmed that he would remain with the club for another season at the least. As such, Atleti have already begun their quest to recruit new players and they have most-recently finalised a preliminary to sign AS Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.

Meanwhile, Griezmann is currently with the France national side at the summer World Cup and his focus is expected to remain on helping Les Bleus win the global tournament. Since the 1998 triumph, Les Bleus have not managed to replicate the feat with the 2006 penalty shoot-out defeat to Italy being the closest they have come to the title.

France secured a 2-1 triumph over Australia in the opening group stage game last week and they should now be regarded as one of the favourites to reach the knockout stage alongside Denmark. Denmark clinched a close 1-0 win over Peru with RB Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen finding the scoresheet.
