MALOUDA SET FOR VASCO

Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda looks set to leave the club in the summer after it was revealed that Chelsea have opened talks with Brazilian club Vasco da Gama over the potential £ 3 million transfer fee.

The former Lyon winger has made it no secret that he would one day like to play in Brazil, which is the home country of his wife. The Lyon winger joined the club back in 2007 for a transfer fee of £ 13 million, but the 32-year-old has not featured for the first team heavily in the last one season.

The former Lyon winger has made it no secret that he would one day like to play in Brazil, which is the home country of his wife. The Lyon winger joined the club back in 2007 for a transfer fee of £ 13 million, but the 32-year-old has not featured for the first team heavily in the last one season.

It is thought that he does not figure in the long-term plans for Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo, who has used Ramires in this position. The arrival of Eden Hazard also signals Chelsea’s intent to use the Belgian winger more often than not. Malouda has only one season left on his current contract. As a result, Chelsea are looking to sell him even for a nominal fee rather than lose him for nothing next season. Only a few months ago, Florent Malouda revealed that he is not ready to sign a new contract with Chelsea because he did not have assurance that he will be a first-team player.

If Florent Malouda leaves the club in the summer, then he will become the fourth established player to leave the club. Chelsea have already released Didier Drogba, Saloman Kalou and José Bosingwa from the squad that won the Champions League title this season. This has been the first ever Champions League triumph for Chelsea, but it is thought that owner Roman Abramovich wants to take the club to greater heights by bringing in a lot of young players who are exciting to watch. The arrival of Eden Hazard for £ 32 million is a statement of intent.
