MALOUDA CALLS FOR PATIENCE WITH WERNER

Former Chelsea player Florent Malouda has asked the club’s fans to take it easy and be patient with summer signing Timo Werner as the German striker still tries to work hard to better his goal-scoring abilities in order to help the team.

Blues manager Frank Lampard splashed the cash heavily in the summer and completed the signings of a host of players, including Werner, and the former RB Leipzig man has not really been himself. Although the striker put his name on the scoresheet in his side’s FA Cup win over Morecambe, he has still struggled to adapt well to the Premier League and help his team score important and much-needed goals.
Despite enduring a 12-game goalless run, Malouda has leapt to the defense of the player, claiming that it was not his fault that he did not score in those games and that he was always doing his best to carry the team and score goals, but has just been unlucky so far.

Malouda, speaking on talkSPORT, said that real strikers don’t go into hiding when they are ensuring a goal drought and Werner did so good to avoid that. He also added that Werner will definitely come good for Chelsea but needs the belief and faith of not just the manager, but also the fans.

Werner joined Chelsea on the back of a tremendous season with Leipzig and his signing sent goosebumps on the skins of Chelsea fans, but expectations keep mounting for him to deliver as quickly as possible, but Malouda believes that he is trying his best.

Werner will also be looking to improve on his form in front of goal given how badly Chelsea need to start scoring goals to achieve their objectives of the season. Lampard has continued to defend his striker, insisting that his time is coming.
