Athletico Madrid’s title hopes were dented on Saturday when they were beaten at Sporting Gijon. Their previous defeat in La Liga came on January 30th. The defeat ended a nine-game unbeaten run for Athletico Madrid and put them nine points behind leader, Barcelona.

Fernando Torres believes that the players will benefit from being with their national team during this period and that will allow them to change their mind and become refresh for the remaining matches of the season. Players that will not be on international duties will be staying at the club and training as usual.

He believes that the international break will also provide Athletico Madrid the opportunity to recover some of their injured players. Torres believes that they will need all their players at the very best if they want to have a chance to snatch the title. Matches will come quickly once the international break is over.

Athletico will be at home against Real Betis on April 2nd and three days later they will be going to the Camp Nou to face Barcelona, in an all-Spanish Champions League quarter-final match. Torres believes that Athletico Madrid will have to improve their game if they want to progress in the Champions League.

Fernando Torres, formerly a Chelsea and Liverpool player, is determined to give his best for his side, and he has been in good form recently. He has even been voted as the best Athletico Madrid player by the fan for the month of February.
